The
answer to this question is not that obvious and it will definitely
differ from person to person based on their perception of
relationships virtually and physically. I personally believe that for
sure social media has brought us closer, but still it can never
replace the bond we share with those people whom we have personal
interactions or human contacts, though it has been successful in
enhancing those already build up soul connections by keeping us more
intact or close through a medium always available in our hands.
Social media, since
the time it has gained importance, is known to form social
constructive interactions between like-minded people. Beyond just the
power of networking, people have used this medium to grow their
businesses and in some cases, many startups flourished from it and
are now big giant industry leaders. Social media does this
impactfully by bridging the gap between people that otherwise may not
be able to connect sometimes because of geographical boundaries or
sometimes in the lack of proper connection between them. We can see
many examples around us, which clearly tell us how social media has
helped in making connections before joining new office premises or a
college campus. It is human nature to feel little worried or
frightened before entering a new space with which we are not much
aware of. With social media, we can now easily get to know the people
who will be surrounding us for the next couple of years. This is
because, despite our new environments and extremely varied
backgrounds, we already have an acquaintance-like connection from
Facebook.
In today's world,
social media has become our greatest asset but at the same time our
greatest impediment too. Though it has numerous benefits still it is
dividing people, by deteriorating the most valuable relationships
they have earned by face to face communication. Particularly if we
talk about this generation, the impact of the digital
media is more and even rising up with the coming
generations. It's sad that we can not even go for a day out without
our mobile phones or laptops, forgetting how to enjoy and live our
lives in a way it should be.
I believe social
media makes people closer who are farther but farther from the people
who are closer to us.
